South Dakota has sixteen farm wineries. The South Dakota Farm Winery legislation was signed into law in 1996. In 2009 there are 16 SD Farm Wineries. Continuing development of fruit producers and wineries is contributing to rural development and agritourism in South Dakota. According to the 2007 Ag Census, there are now over 60 vineyards, on over 150 acres in SD.
